2015 Fiat New 500

Fiat has decided not to mess with the exterior styling too much since the 500 is one of their best-sellers, having 3.8 million units sold since its original launch in 2007. Eight years since we first saw it, the hugely popular Fiat 500 receives its first, major facelift with the Italians calling it the "new 500".

Despite the limited aesthetic differences, Fiat claims 1,800 changes have been made to the 500. A set of new front headlight with incorporated Daytime LEDs now features a unique lighting signature while the rear LED clusters are also redesigned. A tweaked front grille and slightly redesigned front and rear bumpers complete the minimal exterior changes.

The changes are more significant in the cabin, with the new 500 now featuring an integrated 5-inch Uconnect infotainment system. The refreshed layout is complimented by more premium materials and new trim options according to Fiat. The more expensive models come with a digital seven-inch TFT instrument cluster. Fiat also says that they have added more soundproofing for extra refinement and comfort.

The entire engine line-up is now meeting with the upcoming Euro6 regulations. The petrol engine range consists of the 68hp 1.2-litre and the turbocharged two-cylinder 0.9-litre Twinair which is offered in 85hp and 105hp guises. The latter now returns less than 90g/km of CO2 in both power versions with Fiat claiming for the 85hp version a fuel economy figure of just 74.3mpg UK (3.8lt/100km).

The 1.3-litre Multijet engine is the only available diesel engine and produces 95hp and 89g/km of CO2. A new "Eco" version of the petrol 1.2 model is coming later, which will offer 99g/km of CO2 with the use of a more slippery body kit and low-resistance tires. Also updated is the Dualogic automatic transmission, a robotised version of the manual gearbox with Fiat adding shift paddles to the steering. The Italian company also claims improvements on the chassis, without specifying further details.

New Fiat Aegea Compact Sedan

The FIAT Aegea was designed in Italy at the FIAT Chrysler Automobiles Centro Stile and developed in Turkey - a country in which FIAT sold plenty of Linea sedans if you recall. The Aegea however is currently known as the "FIAT Aegea Project" in honor of the Italian manufacturer's joint venture with Turkey, which was of course the reason why they chose to debut the car in Istanbul, rather than anywhere else.

Touching on the design and proportions of the car, all we can say is that it's not bad looking at all. The fact that FIAT chose to build it as a three-volume sedan rather than a hatchback with a boot is quite evident. In terms of size, the Aegea measures 4.5m (14.7 ft) in length, 1.78m (5.8 ft) in width and 1.48m (4.8 ft) in height with a 2.64m (8.66 ft) wheelbase - or roughly the size of an Audi A3 Sedan. As for luggage space, you get a load capacity of over 510 liters (18 cu.ft).

The front fascia looks pretty good and they did a good job on the taillight design as well. Other nice touches are the sculpted bonnet and the Uconnect infotainment system found inside, which comes with a 5" color touch screen display.

Speaking of the interior, you can also get hands-free Bluetooth calling (audio streaming), SMS text reader and voice recognition, AUX and USB ports with iPod integration, steering wheel controls and an optional rear parking camera. The cabin certainly doesn't look bad, and it's clearly identifiable as a FIAT.

Engine-wise, we'll be looking at two MultiJet II turbo-diesel units and two petrol units with outputs measuring between 95 HP and 120 HP. You'll also be able to choose between a manual or an automatic transmission (depending on the engine). FIAT says that the diesel engines in the Aegea will be very fuel efficient, or "upwards of 70 mpg", which for most of Europe means 4.0 liters/100 km.

In addition to the previously mentioned 2011 Chrysler 200 Super S, Mopar will also be displaying several aftermarket accessories for the recently launched in the USA, Fiat 500, through a special version of the city car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Like the Chrysler 200, the Mopar-flavored Fiat 500 is all show and no-go, as all upgrades are more or less purely cosmetic. The Detroit Show Mopar 500 appears to be far less impressive than the concept shown by the same division at last year's SEMA gathering, with the overall styling bringing to mind the accessories found on Mopar's "10' Limited Edition Challenger".
