Nissan Qashqai Hybrid

Two sources familiar with Nissan's product plans told Automotive News that the automaker plans to expand the Rogue lineup in North America by adding a hybrid version in 2016 and bringing the European Qashqai crossover. The latter would be sold as a smaller and more fuel-efficient version of the Rogue, effectively replacing the lower priced, previous-generation Rogue Select. The decision to build the new Rogue at the Kyushu plant in Japan will result in the facility discontinuing the Rogue Select.

The Nissan Qashqai shares the same architecture with the Rogue (which is sold as the X-Trail in Europe), but it’s 10 inches (254mm) shorter and has a 2-inch (51mm) shorter wheelbase. As a result, the Qashqai offers less cargo space than the Rogue. When it arrives in the US, the Qashqai may be offered with the 1.6-liter gasoline engine that returns approximately 53 mpg US.

As for the Rogue Hybrid, it will likely use the same powertrain as the X-Trail Hybrid sold in Japan, which pairs a 145hp 2.0-liter gasoline engine with a 30kW (40hp) RM31 electric motor and a high-output lithium-ion battery. Nissan declined to comment on the report.

Nissan Juke-R 2.0 600PS

Based on the facelifted Nissan Juke, the Juke-R 2.0 distinguishes itself from regular models thanks to a more muscular appearance and the "R" matt black body color. Marking the fifth anniversary of the Nissan Juke, the Juke R 2.0 is powered by the same powertrain found in the GT-R Nismo, which means it has a 600PS (592hp) 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 under the hood.

The crossover features an aggressive aero kit including a heavily redesigned carbon fiber front bumper with huge air intakes, a carbon fiber rear bumper incorporating a diffuser and new exhaust cowlings, as well as carbon fiber rear winglets.

The sinister appearance is also due to the carbon fiber wheel arch flares and side sills, engine bonnet with integrated bare carbon engine cooling ducts, as well as the gloss black mirror caps and the unique alloy wheels. Other than the addition of a black roof lining, no other changes were made inside.

Nissan didn't say anything about performance, but given that the previous 545hp Juke-R offered a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 275km/h (171mph), the new one should be even more bonkers. There's no word about a production version yet, but if it gets confirmed it will likely be even more expensive than the original Juke-R, which was available in very limited numbers for about €500,000.

All-New Nissan Maxima is "dramatically styled" and we happily agree with that. It's no exaggeration. They also say that it resets the Maxima's iconic "4-Door Sports Car" image, but we'll hold off on believing that just yet.

The design language is however extremely rich and to our liking. It all starts with the V-Motion front end and signature boomerang lights, floating roof look, the curvy and futuristic-looking profile, before concluding with the sleek and imposing rear end. We absolutely love the view from behind and Nissan, we swear we don't just say that to all car manufacturers.

Inside, the all-new 2016 Nissan Maxima is just as spectacular. Nissan say that the Maxima's bespoke interior can rival what you get in some luxury vehicles and even though from certain points of view that can't be the case, everything looks absolutely great. From the upper dash to the console, the displays, the steering wheel - it does kind of seem to get the upper hand on its direct rivals.

In terms of gear, you'll find an 8" touch-screen display, a Remote Engine Start system, RearView Monitor plus a whole bunch of safety features such as Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, Forward Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitoring which is a must-have nowadays - or at least ever since we figured out how useful it really is.

There's also a Driver Attention Alert system which monitors steering input patterns in order to establish a baseline and ultimately help alert the driver when he's being inattentive. Though this is available on the Maxima Platinum only.

The new Maxima's 3.5 liter VQ-series V6 engine has been redesigned (it now has more than 60% new parts) and it produces 300 HP, which sounds pretty good, especially considering the EPA estimated 30 mpg (7.8 l/100km) rating.

You can get your 2016 Maxima in one of five grade levels, including new SL, SR and Platinum grades, while prices start from $32,410 MSRP.

According to the automaker's release, the updated QX50 has a wheelbase increase of more than three inches, creating additional rear legroom and interior volume as well as new front and rear fascias, newly designed alloy wheels, side sills, and a slightly higher ride stance.

While Infiniti alluded to provide any pictures of the car, it seems that the North American model is the same as the recently announced 2016 QX50 in China that rides on a 80mm (3.2in) longer wheelbase and features a revised styling on the outside.
