We don't have any information on what powers this dynamic looking sports hatch/convertible yet, but in one of the interior pictures we did notice a battery charge icon that reads "62% - 98km" on the instrument panel, so it's either a pure-electric model or a hybrid/plug-in hybrid (we can’t tell for sure if it has tailpipes).

We'll also have to hand it to Peugeot for picking a really cool name on this one – maybe it'll have actual fractal patterns in the detailing to tie it in. They show a sported up coupe-hatch concept with a retractable roof and seating for four in a 2+2 layout.

It borrows more than its fair share of design elements from Peugeot's recent digital racer for the Gran Turismo 6 game, mixing hard lines and edges with curvy surfaces on the body, together with the shape and styling of the slim LED headlights and tail lamps, and some of Peugeot's more production elements like its trademark front grille.

The new Peugeot Fractal Coupe-Hatch-Convertible concept will debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Peugeot Citroën C5

It is unclear when sales of the new C5 will begin in China, where the current model arrived in 2008. PSA Peugeot Citroën builds the C5 in China at the Wuhan plant it operates together with joint venture partner Dongfeng Motor.

Jackson added that there is a "question mark" over whether the C5 replacement will be offered in Europe as well. "Looking at the market you certainly see that segment reducing significantly and being taken over by SUVs," Jackson explained.

European sales of the current Citroën C5, offered both as a sedan and estate, don't make a good case for a follow-up model in the region. Sales fell 27 percent to 17,911 units last year, according to JATO Dynamics.

However, C5 still ranked ninth in Europe's volume midsize segment, where sales have declined by 37 percent since 2011. That contrasts with SUV and crossover sales, which grew by 21 percent in Europe last year for all brands.

Peugeot 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport

The Peugeot 308 GTi will be offered in two flavors, one with 250PS (247hp) and another with 270PS (266hp), both with a peak torque of 330Nm (243lb-ft) from just 1,900 rpm. Both versions are powered by a 1.6-liter THP S&S turbocharged petrol engine mated to a manual six-speed manual transmission, with the range-topping model also benefitting from a Torsen limited-slip differential for improved cornering traction.

Performance-wise, the 308 GTi 270 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.0 seconds, compared to 6.2 seconds for the 308 GTi 250. Top speed in both cars is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155mph).

Even though we're talking about a hot hatch, Peugeot takes pride in the fuel economy figures of the new 308 GTi, which is said to be the most efficient in its segment. Thanks in part to the standard Stop&Start technology, the compact hot hatch averages 6 l/100 km (47.1 mpg UK), with corresponding CO2 emissions of 139 g/km.

From a styling point of view, the Peugeot 308 GTi adopts an understated look, but trained eyes will no doubt detect exclusive details such as the full LED headlights, new black radiator grille with a horizontal chequered pattern and gloss-black finishing, red lettering for the Peugeot logo, sharper side sills, gloss black rear diffuser integrating the twin exhaust pipes, as well as GTi logos on the front fenders and tailgate.

In the quest for more dynamic characteristics, the 308 GTi not only sits 11mm (0.43in) closer to the ground, but has a wider track of 1,570mm at the front and 1,554mm at the rear. GTi 250 versions come with 18-inch "Diamant" alloy wheels, while GTi 270 versions feature the new 19-inch "Carbone" light-weight alloys. Other unique details include the 380mm front discs, complete with solid red four-piston calipers and Peugeot Sport signature.

The Peugeot 308 GTi 270 will also be offered with an exclusive "Coupe Franche" two-tone design combining the new "Ultimate Red" color with Nera Black.

Inside, the 308 GTi features red stitching on the upholstery, door panels, gear lever and luxury floor mats, aluminum GTi and Peugeot Sport logos, as well as aluminum pedals, foot rest and gear knob. The top GTi 270 model also gets bucket seats upholstered in Alcantara with red stitching.
