The French city car is from now offered in a new Blue Lagoon color, while two-tone versions can be ordered for five-door models as well. The Blue Lagoon color has been added to the existing seven exterior hues and is also available in a personalized two-tone finish as an option for 3-door and 5-door versions.

In terms of equipment, the Citroën C1 is now available with Active City Brake, the automatic urban braking technology that avoids collisions at low speed, as well as the Lane Departure Warning system. The list of new features also includes a 7-inch tablet, Mirror Screen technology, hands-free access and start system, reversing camera and hill start assist.

Nothing changes under the hood, with the Citroën C1 offering four Euro6 petrol engines: VTi 68 manual, VTi 68 ETG, VTi 68 S&S manual and PureTech 82 manual. The refreshed Citroën C1 is priced from €10,250 in France.

It is unclear when sales of the new C5 will begin in China, where the current model arrived in 2008. PSA Peugeot Citroën builds the C5 in China at the Wuhan plant it operates together with joint venture partner Dongfeng Motor.

Jackson added that there is a "question mark" over whether the C5 replacement will be offered in Europe as well. "Looking at the market you certainly see that segment reducing significantly and being taken over by SUVs," Jackson explained.

European sales of the current Citroën C5, offered both as a sedan and estate, don't make a good case for a follow-up model in the region. Sales fell 27 percent to 17,911 units last year, according to JATO Dynamics.

However, C5 still ranked ninth in Europe's volume midsize segment, where sales have declined by 37 percent since 2011. That contrasts with SUV and crossover sales, which grew by 21 percent in Europe last year for all brands.

Citroën C4 Cactus

The automaker will sell the C4 Cactus in Australia, South Africa and potentially southeast Asia, Citroën CEO Linda Jackson said. The model has proven to be more popular than the company expected, which is why Citroën decided to offer it outside Europe as well. Initially, the C4 Cactus was only intended for European markets, with Citroën estimating annual sales of 70,000. However, the carmaker sold 74,000 units since the car launched in France in June 2014.

"We are ahead of where we thought we would be and we are increasing production," Linda Jackson told Autonews Europe in an interview. The executive added that the brand will build 10,000 additional units a year at the Villaverde plant near Madrid.

Citroën CEO also said the car's success proved that the decision to offer a different car from mainstream rivals was correct. "When people first see it they like or don't like it. I would rather we had that reaction instead of always being No. 4 on people's shopping lists," Jackson said.

She added the C4 Cactus will also inspire future models, beginning with a future compact SUV previewed by the Aircross concept unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year.

According to market researcher JATO Dynamics, Citroën sold 28,336 C4 Cactus vehicles in the first four months of this year, making it the brand's No. 3 seller after the C3 supermini and C4 Picasso MPV.
