2016 Ford Galaxy |
The Galaxy joins the new-generation S-Max large minivan in this popular lineup. Families are the target of the seven-seat Galaxy. On the other hand, the S-Max is sporty and carries a wider appeal.
The Galaxy is the first model in its segment to have a feature that by just one push of a button, the third row of seats is automatically raised. It also has the capability of instantly folding the second and third row seats.
In a statement, Ford said that the headroom of this new Galaxy is 10mm bigger than the existing Galaxy, benefitting those seated in the second and third rows. Included in the driver assistance systems available is a speed limiter that could scan traffic signs and modifies the throttle to help drivers keep within legal speed limits.
It also has a system that avoids or lessens the severity of frontal collisions whether it involves other vehicles or pedestrians. Expect the Galaxy to begin sales this September. The new S-Max will begin selling next month. Ford's plant in Valencia, Spain, produces the Galaxy and S-Max as well as the Mondeo midsize car.
Ford had shut down its plant in Genk, Belgium, which manufactured older generations of the models. The Galaxy has dampers and springs that are specifically tuned for it. The model still comes with Continuous Control Damping that assists it in offering suspension with “comfort,” “normal” and “sport” chassis settings.
For the first time, it comes with Electronic Power Assisted Steering that enables steering weight to adapt to match these settings. One of the first models to get Ford Adaptive Steering technology is this all-new Galaxy. This means that this minivan can easily manoeuvre around town and that at higher speeds, it offers better steering precision.
Due to the entry of EPAS, Torque Steer Compensation and Active Nibble Compensation systems are enabled, cancelling out feedback, forces and vibration. The all-new Galaxy also comes with fuel-efficient new engines that produce more power, making it ideal for driving whether in the city or on the highway.
It will be offered with the brand’s new 210 PS 2.0-litre TDCi Bi-turbo diesel engine that delivers improved responsiveness and 450 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm.
The company is also offering it with its enhanced 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine with single variable geometry turbocharger technology that is offered with 120 PS, 150 PS and 180 PS, utilizing modified engine block, new cylinder-head and fuel injection designs, and lean NOX trap exhaust after-treatment system for cleaner emissions.
Ford’s new fuel-efficient 160 PS 1.5-litre EcoBoost and 240 PS 2.0-litre EcoBoost are included in the petrol engine options. Safety is of the utmost importance when you’re driving your family around.
